NATURE’S CHILD: Getting Ready for Winter

Nervous for the incoming cold weather? Don’t be! Join family and friends at the Asonia Nature Center for a fun morning class including crafts, stories and outdoor activities. This class is aimed towards 3-5 year old children accompanied by a parent or guardian. 

TUITION: $7 per child ($5 for family-level FANCI members and Ansonia residents), and remember to pre-register!

Date and Time: Friday, December 4, at 10 AM

Nature Fairies and Gnomes at Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center, Saturday 10/10 at 10:00

2459337466_1d40352acc_oThe Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center is offering a great new program throughout the year featuring Nature Fairies: “the champions of the earth!” Head over to the center on Wednesday (8/26) at 10am to hear stories about the Nature Fairies, make a creative craft, and create a fairy house outside! This program is great for kids ages 5-12 and there is a fee of $5.12 for members or $6 for nonmembers.

Guided Canoe Trips at Hammonasset State Park!

Head to Hammonasset State Park in Madison, CT for a two-hour guided round trip on the Hammonasset River, summer Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 9:30 a.m.! Canoes, life vests and paddling instruction are provided (or you can bring your own canoe). Children 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. There is a $5 fee per participant, and advance reservations are recommended; please call Meigs Point Nature Center at 203-245-8743.

Little Explorers Class August 8th from 9:30-10:30am at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center

Bring your curious kids over to the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center for a fun class in exploring the creatures of the forest. Each Saturday morning class from 9:30-10:30am features a different animal such as frogs, butterflies, turtles, and more! There will be a story, a craft, and an outdoor activity in the meadows, forests, and ponds. This event is ideal for families with children under 6 years old. There is a fee of $8.50 for members and $10 for non-members. be sure to pre-register by calling the center at 860-536-1216.

Wildlife Management Education Day in Burlington, Saturday May 23rd

Next Saturday (May 23rd) from 9:00am to 3:00pm there will be an Open Center Day at the Sessions Woods Conservation Education Center. The park will be open with a full day of scheduled, fun activities for all ages– there will be guided walks and hikes in the morning and a special art activity led by local artist Judy Bird in the afternoon, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Master Wildlife Conservationists will staff wildlife related activities, including a wildlife track-making activity. The center is located in Burlington, CT and the entire day of events will be free of charge!

May 16th at Ansonia Nature Center: Bird Watching & Frog Catching

This Saturday, May 16th, Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center will be having two great events. In the morning there will be an 8am bird walk, with an introduction by avid birder Kathy Gambacini followed by an outdoor walk of the center’s lands.

Later in the afternoon, at 2pm there will be an exploration of the site’s Redwing Pond, complete with identification lessons and frog catching.

Both events are free, but pre-registration is encouraged by calling 203-736-1053 for more information!

CFPA Frog Fridays at Highlawn Forest

The Connecticut Forest & Park Association is hosting Frog Fridays from now until mid June! Meet the site’s resident frogs, salamanders, fairy shrimp and more– just make sure to wear your best mud-proof attire! Frog Friday outings are free, but reservations are limited. Check out their website to sign up, and don’t forget to let us know what you thought!
