Creatures of the Night at Bauer Park Saturday 9/5 at 8:30pm

Ever wonder who is responsible for all the chirps you hear at night? Head over to Bauer Park this Saturday night (9/5) at 8:30pm to join author John Himmelman for a walk through the park. You’ll learn how to identify different insects by both sight and sound. This program is for all ages and has no fee. Don’t forget a flashlight!

Marvelous Mushrooms at Flanders Nature Center Saturday (8/22) at 1pm

Join The 3 Foragers at Flanders Nature Center on Saturday (8/22) at 1pm for a program all about mushrooms! First, listen as they give a presentation on identifying different kinds of mushrooms, then explore the Van Vleck Sanctuary hunting for wild mushrooms. Children are welcome and the program will begin at the Flanders Sugar House. Cost for Flanders members is $10 members and $15 for nonmembers. Paddle the Pawcatuck River with the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center August 8th from 9am-3pm

Head out on Saturday from 9am-3pm for an easy paddle around the Pawcatuck River with the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center. You will see the Bradford Dam then head downstream to Potter Hill. The trip is one way, and there will be a return shuttle at the end. This event is ideal for families with older children. Be sure to pre-register by calling 860-536-1216.

Nature Night Out at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center August 8th from 5:30-8:30pm

Bring you kids by on Saturday from 5:30-8:30 for a night with nature! Dinner will be provided, followed by fun activities both indoors and outside such as a hike or stories inside. The night will end with s’mores by the fire. Be sure to send your child with appropriate clothes for being outside and a flashlight! This program is ideal for children ages 5-12. Fees are $25.50/member child and $12.75/extra sibling, or $30/nonmember child and $15/extra sibling. Be sure to pre-register by calling the center at 860-536-1216.

Little Explorers Class August 8th from 9:30-10:30am at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center

Bring your curious kids over to the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center for a fun class in exploring the creatures of the forest. Each Saturday morning class from 9:30-10:30am features a different animal such as frogs, butterflies, turtles, and more! There will be a story, a craft, and an outdoor activity in the meadows, forests, and ponds. This event is ideal for families with children under 6 years old. There is a fee of $8.50 for members and $10 for non-members. be sure to pre-register by calling the center at 860-536-1216.

Back to Basics: Natural Dyes at the Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center Saturday, August 1st at 10am

Interested in how you can decorate clothes and fabric using only plants? Head out to the Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center Saturday, August 1st at 10am to join fiber artists Dawn Sotir and Jody Bishel in a fun lesson in naturally dying fibers. They will lead a short hike to identify plants that can be used for dyeing, then perform a demonstration. There is a fee of $8 per person, and be sure to pre-register by calling the center at (203) 736-1053.

Butterfly Walk at Session Woods Saturday, July 18th at 1:30pm

Head on over to Session Woods this Saturday (7/18) at 1:30pm to learn about butterflies! Join Wildlife Division Natural Resource Educator Laura Rogers-Castro to learn how to identify the many butterflies in Connecticut. The program will meet in the classroom in the exhibit room in Education Center, then move outside to use your new knowledge to identify butterflies around Session Woods. Forest Faeries & Woodland Wizards Festival at Flanders Nature Center this Saturday (7/18) from 10am-3pm

Head out to the Flanders Nature Center on Saturday from 10am-3pm for a day of magic in nature! Come enjoy music, vendors, a crafts show, storytelling, a performance by the Main Street Ballet, and many other fun activities. Come in your fairy costume and march in the parade. You’re also invited to build your own Faerie/Wizard house which will be displayed during the festival. There is a fee of $5 per person (free for ages 2 and under).
