Tree ID walks at Indian Hill Cemetery, Middletown, Sat 10/24, 10 am and 1pm

Join naturalist Lucy Meigs this Saturday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to learn all about trees at Middletown’s Indian Hill Cemetery (383 Washington St.). The 10 a.m. walk is focused on tree identification and ecology. The 1 p.m. walk is geared for families and will be a more basic introduction to tree identificationFrom 11:30 to 1:30 p.m., all are welcome to join in other activities (letterboxing & scavenger hunt) and to bring a picnic lunch. Creatures of the Night at Bauer Park Saturday 9/5 at 8:30pm

Ever wonder who is responsible for all the chirps you hear at night? Head over to Bauer Park this Saturday night (9/5) at 8:30pm to join author John Himmelman for a walk through the park. You’ll learn how to identify different insects by both sight and sound. This program is for all ages and has no fee. Don’t forget a flashlight!

Woodland Walks at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center August 11th from 6:30-7:30pm

Join the Naturalist-Educators at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center  in an exploration of the nature center August 11th from 6:30-7:30. Search for insects and other critters around the center, climb the trails, and explore the streams! Make sure to bring water and dress to get dirty! There is a fee of $12.75/class for members and $15.00/class for non-members. Be sure to pre-register by calling the center at 860-536-1216.

Bee Hotels Program at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center Sunday, August 9th at 1pm

Head out to the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center on Sunday (8/9) at 1pm to learn all about butterflies, bees, and other pollinators! Take a walk through the nature center and the meadow nearby to search for these insects, then create a “bee hotel” from natural resources found outside. This program is ideal for kids ages 6-16, and there is a fee of $8.50 for members or $10 for non-members. Buzz on over!

Butterfly Walk at Session Woods Saturday, July 18th at 1:30pm

Head on over to Session Woods this Saturday (7/18) at 1:30pm to learn about butterflies! Join Wildlife Division Natural Resource Educator Laura Rogers-Castro to learn how to identify the many butterflies in Connecticut. The program will meet in the classroom in the exhibit room in Education Center, then move outside to use your new knowledge to identify butterflies around Session Woods. Be sure to pre-register by calling 860-424-3011 or emailing laura.rogers-castro@ct.gov.

Farmington Valley Butterfly Count and Walk at the Roaring Brooking Nature Center (Canton), this Saturday, July 11 at 7:30am

Join the Roaring Brook Nature Center on July 11th in their annual butterfly survey sponsored by the North American Butterfly Association! The counting will start at 7:30 at the Nature Center parking lot. At 1:30, there will be a butterfly educational program and walk. Be prepared to spend time walking outside. There is a fee of $3 for members and $6 for non-members. The rain date is July 12. Be sure to call the center for more information at 860-693-0263.

Wednesday Evening Walks at the Roaring Brook Nature Center

Head on over to the Roaring Brook Nature Center every other Wednesday evening this summer from 7:30pm-8:45pm to enjoy cooler weather. These evening walks will have a focus on animals that become more active when the sun goes down. Dates for these walks are: July 8th and 22nd and August 5th and 19th. Make sure to wear long sleeves and bring a flashlight and bug spray! There is a fee of $4 for members or $6 for non-members (children’s fee is half price).

Frog Frenzy at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center this Sunday at 2pm

Head over the the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center this Sunday, June 21st at 2pm to explore the world of amphibians! Walk around the nearby wetlands to search for amphibians such as salamanders, frogs, and toads. Make sure to wear boots and clothes you don’t mind getting muddy. There is a fee of $7 per person or child, but fathers and grandfathers can participate for free! Register for this event at the DNPC’s website or by calling the center at 860-536-1216.

Westmoor Park Touch of Nature this Wednesday June 3rd at 10am!

Bring your young kids (ages 0-3 years) over to Westmoor Park for a guided nature walk and visit to the farm. Feel free to bring strollers or wagons for your kids. There is a fee of $10 for residents and $11 for non-residents (for each parent/child pair, plus an extra half of the fee for each addition child). Be sure to register online, in person, or by mail!
