Creatures of the Night at Bauer Park Saturday 9/5 at 8:30pm

Ever wonder who is responsible for all the chirps you hear at night? Head over to Bauer Park this Saturday night (9/5) at 8:30pm to join author John Himmelman for a walk through the park. You’ll learn how to identify different insects by both sight and sound. This program is for all ages and has no fee. Don’t forget a flashlight!

Nature Fairies & Gnomes – Summer Celebration at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center Wednesday, August 26th at 10am

The Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center is offering a great new program throughout the year featuring Nature Fairies: “the champions of the earth!” Head over to the center on Wednesday (8/26) at 10am to hear stories about the Nature Fairies, make a creative craft, and create a fairy house outside! This program is great for kids ages 5-12 and there is a fee of $5.12 for members or $6 for nonmembers.

Marvelous Mushrooms at Flanders Nature Center Saturday (8/22) at 1pm

Join The 3 Foragers at Flanders Nature Center on Saturday (8/22) at 1pm for a program all about mushrooms! First, listen as they give a presentation on identifying different kinds of mushrooms, then explore the Van Vleck Sanctuary hunting for wild mushrooms. Children are welcome and the program will begin at the Flanders Sugar House. Cost for Flanders members is $10 members and $15 for nonmembers. Stream Investigation at Session Woods on Tuesday, August 18th at 1:30pm

Interested in the streams that flow through our neighborhoods? Head out to Session Woods on Tuesday (8/18) at 1:30pm for some hands-on learning! This program will cover stream ecology, conservation techniques, invertebrates, and overall stream health. This event is free, and all children under 12 must be accompanied by an adults. Woodland Walks at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center August 11th from 6:30-7:30pm

Join the Naturalist-Educators at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center  in an exploration of the nature center August 11th from 6:30-7:30. Search for insects and other critters around the center, climb the trails, and explore the streams! Make sure to bring water and dress to get dirty! There is a fee of $12.75/class for members and $15.00/class for non-members. Be sure to pre-register by calling the center at 860-536-1216.

Paddle the Pawcatuck River with the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center August 8th from 9am-3pm

Head out on Saturday from 9am-3pm for an easy paddle around the Pawcatuck River with the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center. You will see the Bradford Dam then head downstream to Potter Hill. The trip is one way, and there will be a return shuttle at the end. This event is ideal for families with older children. Be sure to pre-register by calling 860-536-1216.

Nature Night Out at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center August 8th from 5:30-8:30pm

Bring you kids by on Saturday from 5:30-8:30 for a night with nature! Dinner will be provided, followed by fun activities both indoors and outside such as a hike or stories inside. The night will end with s’mores by the fire. Be sure to send your child with appropriate clothes for being outside and a flashlight! This program is ideal for children ages 5-12. Fees are $25.50/member child and $12.75/extra sibling, or $30/nonmember child and $15/extra sibling. Be sure to pre-register by calling the center at 860-536-1216.

Bee Hotels Program at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center Sunday, August 9th at 1pm

Head out to the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center on Sunday (8/9) at 1pm to learn all about butterflies, bees, and other pollinators! Take a walk through the nature center and the meadow nearby to search for these insects, then create a “bee hotel” from natural resources found outside. This program is ideal for kids ages 6-16, and there is a fee of $8.50 for members or $10 for non-members. Buzz on over!

Little Explorers Class August 8th from 9:30-10:30am at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center

Bring your curious kids over to the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center for a fun class in exploring the creatures of the forest. Each Saturday morning class from 9:30-10:30am features a different animal such as frogs, butterflies, turtles, and more! There will be a story, a craft, and an outdoor activity in the meadows, forests, and ponds. This event is ideal for families with children under 6 years old. There is a fee of $8.50 for members and $10 for non-members. be sure to pre-register by calling the center at 860-536-1216.
