Stream Investigation at Session Woods on Tuesday, August 18th at 1:30pm


Interested in the streams that flow through our neighborhoods? Head out to Session Woods on Tuesday (8/18) at 1:30pm for some hands-on learning! This program will cover stream ecology, conservation techniques, invertebrates, and overall stream health. This event is free, and all children under 12 must be accompanied by an adults. Family Crabbing at the Coogan Farm Wednesday, July 15th at 6pm

32715961_14139588bd_oHead out to the Coogan Farm Nature and Heritage Center on Wednesday (7/15) at 6pm to dive into the world of crabbing. This program will meet at the farm, where the basics about crabs and crabbing techniques will be covered. Then you’ll get to head to a “secret crabbing location” where you can utilize your new crabbing knowledge. Make sure to bring a headlamp or a flashlight and to wear appropriate shoes (no crocs or flip flops). There is a fee of $8.50 for members and $10 for non-members.

Three Guided Canoe Tours at the CT Audubon Coastal Center at Milford Point this summer


Come explore the Charles E. Wheeler Salt Marsh in a guided canoe tour with the CT Audubon Society. The marsh has a wealth of birds, wildlife, and beautiful views. Dates for the tours are July 18th (12:15pm-2:45pm), August 1st (11:30am-2pm), and August 29 (10:15am-12:45pm). Make sure to pack a lunch or snack, plenty of water, and wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet! Canoes and equipment will be provided. Inclement weather (such as wind or rain) may cause the trip to be cancelled so make sure to call the Coastal Center for information before at (203) 878-7440. Be sure to pre-register as spots fill up quickly. 

To rent a Coastal Center canoe the fees are:
CAS Members $27/person, $69/canoe (3 people)
Non-members $35/person, $95/canoe (3 people)

To use your own canoe fees are:
$20 CAS Members, $30 Non-members
