A Day in a Farmer’s Life at The Stamford Museum and Nature Center every Wednesday at 2pm

Ever wondered what it’s like to be a farmer? Head out to the Stamford Museum and Nature Center every Wednesday at 2pm this summer to discover the life of a farmer on Heckscher Farm. There will be a different farming activity each week including milking, grooming, caring for young animals, and more! This program runs from June 24th-August 19th and runs for 30-45 minutes. This program is free (with gate admission) and for all ages. Meet at the chicken coop!

Family Fun Nights at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center every Tuesday this summer

New in town, or want to learn more about the animals that live in Connecticut? Join the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center every Tuesday this summer in this family event to explore the natural habitats and animals in the area. There will even be a campfire and marshmallows. This event is great for families with children of all ages. There is a fee of $25 per family (up to five people). Register for this program by calling the center at 860-536-1216 or on their website

Apply to the Conservation Ambassador Youth Program

Boy Goodwin Hidden Acres Pond

Are you a youth conservationist interested in getting involved in protecting the environment and wildlife around Connecticut? Apply to become a Youth Conservation Ambassador with the Connecticut Forest and Park Association!

The Teen Conservation Ambassadors will learn all about the environments in Connecticut, the natural history of the area, and how to communicate what they’ve learned with their community. Dates for this program are July 7-8 from 9am-3pm at the CFPA headquarters in Rockfall. The registration deadline is June 25th!

The Junior Conservation Ambassadors (grades 4-7) will learn about Connecticut’s land and wildlife through fun outdoor activities. Ambassadors will explore the natural habitats in the area, and conduct projects that will help conserve the environment and wildlife. Dates for this program are June 29-30 from 9am-3pm at the Goodwin Forest Conservation Education Center in Hampton, or July 1-2 from 9am-3pm at the CFPA headquarters in Rockfall. The registration deadline is June 24th!

Summer Solstice Father’s Day Hike at the Roaring Brook Nature Center this Sunday at 1:30pm

Come celebrate the summer solstice and Father’s Day on a guided hike of the Quarry Trail at the Roaring Brook Nature Center on Sunday at 1:30pm. On the hike you will learn about the history of the area. There is a fee of $4 for members or $6 for non-members. Children’s fees are half-price, and fathers are admitted for free!

Frog Frenzy at the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center this Sunday at 2pm

Head over the the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center this Sunday, June 21st at 2pm to explore the world of amphibians! Walk around the nearby wetlands to search for amphibians such as salamanders, frogs, and toads. Make sure to wear boots and clothes you don’t mind getting muddy. There is a fee of $7 per person or child, but fathers and grandfathers can participate for free! Register for this event at the DNPC’s website or by calling the center at 860-536-1216.

Summer Solstice Celebration and Bonfire at The CT Audubon Society Center at Glastonbury this Sunday!

Celebrate the longest day of the year with a blazing bonfire at the CAS Center at Glastonbury this Sunday, June 21st at 8pm! There will be songs, dance, stories, and a light snack. This event is great for all ages. There is a fee of $8 for CAS adult members and $4 for kids under 12, or $12 for adult non-members and $6 for kids. Carpooling and pre-registration are strongly recommended. Call the center at 860-633-8402 to pre-register!

Little Fairies, Big Magic at the Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center, this Saturday at 2pm

Cyril the sorcerer will be performing an act with an environmental focus, specifically about protecting the wilderness and natural habitats. Come experience the magic at this free family program. WILD! Feeding at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center every Saturday this summer at 12:30pm

Every Saturday this summer from 12:30pm-1pm, head out to the Stamford Museum and Nature Center and help feed the animals housed there. Discover what the animals like to eat and help prepare their diet. This event is free for all children, but make sure to grab a spot early (any time after 10am day of) as only 20 kids can help each week. This program is every Saturday from June 6th through August 22 (except the Fourth of July).

Nature’s Child: Tidal Pools Workshop at Ansonia Nature Center tomorrow at 10:30am

Are you curious about the organisms that are able to live in the harsh environment of a tidal pool? Come to the Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center learn about these animals in a hands-on activity with organisms visiting from the Long Island Sound. There will also be a craft project and a fun story! This class is on Friday, June 12th at 10:30am. 

There is a tuition fee of $7 per child, or $5 for FANCI members and Ansonia residents. This class is ideal for preschool age children and their parents! Be sure to register by calling 203-736-1053.
