Bring the whole family to the New Canaan Nature Center for a post-Thanksgiving hike led by NCNC Naturalists! While “waddling” the trails, we’ll search for some of nature’s most treasured gifts (apple trees, maple trees & honey bees to name a few) and learn why the end of autumn is a busy time of year for many wild animals.  After our hike, enjoy a free behind-the-scenes tour of our Animal Care facilities & Birds of Prey Exhibit. Naturalists will be departing with groups from the Sugar Shack for Trail Treks at 10:30 AM, 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM (sign up is first-come, first serve). Other ongoing activities include a “Getting Ready for Winter” Scavenger Hunt, as well as Letterboxing on the NCNC property.  Free.

For both the colonists and the Algonquin tribes, November was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, in order to ensure a supply of warm winter furs. This full moon was also called the Frost Moon. Join the Ansonia Nature Center’s rangers, who will lead this unique hike designed for families. Cost is $1.00 per person. The great southern migration is over, and the birds we see now are the resident birds that will stay through the winter. This program at Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center includes information about the resident birds, tips on how to keep them fed and healthy through the winter, and time spent birdwatching at the feeders and along the trails. We provide binoculars and field guides, although you’re welcome to bring your own. Stop by the nature store after the program to check out the sale prices on bird seed and bird feeders! $5.10 member / $6 nonmember. ( 9 – 11 am or 1 -3 pm).

Start by enjoying a presentation on Hubble Gotchu, followed by a visit to view the night sky through our 22-inch research telescope. What “critters” will appear on the trails at Roaring Brook Nature Center in Canton, CT at this year’s Halloween Hobgoblin Fair? 

Join us for a ‘Track & Treat’ walk, children’s crafts, cupcake decorating, face painting, a Country Kitchen of yummy homemade items, and a delicious lunch of homemade soup, bread and apple cider. This program is suitable for children ages 3-8. Children are encouraged to wear costumes IF suitable for walking in the woods and participating in the craft activities, and must be accompanied by a parent. Cost: $8 children; $4 adults. Fee includes the ‘Track & Treat’ walk, all crafts, and face painting. Other activities available for an additional charge. Please note that there are no refunds, and that participants should attend the session for which they register; pre-registration with payment and this form is required.Â
